Many successful websites depend on returning visitors to maintain the major part of their traffic. Returning visitors are quite easy to convert into paying customers due to the fact that the more often they return to a site, the more trust they will have in that site. The issue of credibility just fades away. Therefore, try to keep your visitors from coming back to your site with the following 5 easy methods:

1) Initiate a forum, chatroom or shoutbox

When you start a forum, chatroom or shoutbox, you will be providing your visitors with a place to voice their opinions and interact with other visitors. As conversations build up, a sense of community will also come from it and your visitors will then want to come back to your site nearly every day.

2) Start a web log (blog)

Try to keep an online journal, also known as a blog, on your site and keep it updated with all your latest news. Human beings are very curious creatures and they will be glued to the monitor if you post frequent updated news. You will also be able to build up your credibility as you prove to them that there is also a real person behind your website.

3) Carry out frequent polls and surveys

Another form of interaction that you should definitely consider adding to your site is that of the survey or poll. These provide a quick method for visitors to express their opinions and to get directly involved in your website. Make sure to publish polls or surveys which are strongly relevant to the target market of your website in order to keep them interested to find out about the results.

4) Put in puzzles, quizzes and games

Many office workers procrastinate at work every day, and you will definitely be able to gauge on how many people will keep visiting your site if you provide a very interesting or addicting form of entertainment. You can also consider holding competitions in order to award the high score winner in order to keep people wanting to earn the prize.

5) Frequently update your site with fresh content

Try to update your site frequently with fresh content so that each time your visitors return, they will have something new to read on your site. This is the most well known and best method for attracting returning visitors, but this is also the least carried out one because of the webmaster’s laziness. No one will want to browse a site that remains similar for over a decade, so always try to keep your site updated with fresh bits and bites!
